4th Swarm Summary

Apparently the gorgeous conditions above the dirt level encouraged unintended roaming, the incredibly distinct instructions and map notwithstanding…

…or maybe the instructions weren’t that specific???  Ya know, dirt doesn’t have an agenda of how you discover/enjoy it, and we just hope you elect to roam with greater frequency than we offer as “organized” gathering…

Of our 40+ starters (and yay! finishers, all), two hands’ worth went short (some variation on either side of the planned Mile) with times between 11 & 44 minutes; one hand’s worth opted for the 10K option (and SuperFly Alan caught a third loop to take Season Distance Champ) with a 20 minute spread starting at Bill’s zippy 64 minutes;  the remainder content to enjoy just one loop with distance quirks (dropping to beyond the bottom of Shire, f’r’instance) that make time recordings fairly meaningless.  Then, Benji joined the Under 1 category — Adler started that club last year — by nudging Elise and Willie thru their paces so that he could get his own recognition!

Who scored cool stuff, both earned or just by luck? Henry, reluctantly but with confident smile, snatched the BCD away from Elise this week…

…and Elizabeth, with accumulated anticipation from previous outings, finally yanked in the RunNut trophy.  Rita and Ryan, for consistently bringing their own self-buzzing swarm to these gatherings, now have beanies to proudly wear in public places and promote the cause…

…and Sam drew Fly names from the hat so Jody, Aimee, Geoffrey and Marcia could relish the thrill of gift certificates from local merchants (respectively) Catamount Arts, Juniper’s at the Wildflower Inn, Cafe Lotti and Stepping Stone Spa.  Oh, and Reinette got her first of this Season’s birthday song chorus!

Goodies dispensed, the web holding Flys rapt dissolved, and Swarm #4 weaves into ShoeFly Series lore.  Yup, the Closers outlasted ’em all, their trend seemingly now part of our bond of gathering to enjoy the dirt.  See y’all in a couple weeks — keep on bzzzzzin’…!!
